RawLaw (“we”, “our”, or “us”), the operator of the platform available at rawlaw.in and app.rawlaw.in, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our Platform.
By accessing or using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. This Policy should be read alongside our Terms and Conditions.
We comply with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and, where applicable, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India).
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Information you provide directly
- Account information: Name, email address, mobile number, and password when you register
- Profile information: City, state, area of practice, Bar Council enrollment number (for advocates)
- Query content: Legal issues you describe when posting a query on the marketplace
- Payment information: Billing address and transaction details (card or bank details are processed by our payment gateway and are not stored on our servers)
- Communications: Messages you send to us via contact forms or support email
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: Pages visited, features used, time spent, and click behaviour
- Device and browser data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers
- Cookies and similar technologies: See Section 5 below
Information from third parties
- Social login: If you sign in using Google or another OAuth provider, we receive your name and email address from that provider
- Bar Council verification: We may verify advocate enrollment details against publicly available Bar Council databases
How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Match your legal query with relevant verified advocates
- Process payments and issue receipts
- Send you transactional emails (query updates, bid notifications, receipts)
- Send you service updates or newsletters (you can opt out at any time)
- Improve and personalise the Platform experience
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with our legal obligations under Indian law
We do not use your personal information for automated profiling or make automated decisions that have a legal effect on you without human review.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- With advocates: When you post a query, your query details (but not your full contact details) are shared with advocates on the Platform so they can submit bids. Your contact details are shared only after you choose to engage an advocate.
- With service providers: We engage trusted third-party vendors for payment processing, email delivery, cloud hosting, and analytics. These vendors are bound by data processing agreements and may only use your information to provide services to us.
- For legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority in India.
- Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity, subject to the same privacy protections.
Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep you logged in across sessions
- Remember your preferences
- Understand how users interact with the Platform (analytics)
- Deliver relevant content
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of the Platform.
We use Google Analytics (with IP anonymisation enabled) to understand aggregate usage patterns. We do not use this data to identify individual users.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on servers located in India. We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted storage of sensitive fields (passwords are hashed using bcrypt)
- Access controls limiting data access to authorised personnel only
- Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments
Despite these measures, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as:
- Your account is active, or
- Necessary to provide you with our services, or
- Required by applicable Indian law (e.g., financial records for 7 years under the Companies Act)
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by writing to privacy@rawlaw.in. We will fulfil such requests within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Your Rights
Under applicable Indian law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Delete your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Withdraw consent for processing based on your consent
- Lodge a complaint with the relevant authority under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023

Children’s Privacy
The Platform is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from a child, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us with personal information should contact us at privacy@rawlaw.in.
Third-Party Links
The Platform may contain links to third-party websites (such as Bar Council websites, court portals, or payment gateways). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those websites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by:
- Posting the updated Policy on this page with a new “Last Updated” date
- Sending an email notification to registered users (for material changes)
Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, a Grievance Officer has been appointed to address complaints and concerns related to your personal data and use of the Platform.
